Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa is situated 1120 metres above sea level on 150 acres and is a direct neighbour to Kosciuszko National Park. The Resort also fronts the Little Thredbo River and is just a short walk to the Thredbo River.
Marked trails within the resort are a great introduction to the simple pleasures of walking while an extension to these can easily be added by accessing marked and unmarked trails in Kosciuszko National Park. Walks range from 20 minutes to 3 hours so you can exert yourself as much, or as little, as you like.
All resort walks are regarded as easy to moderate and can be safely explored without a guide, however precautions should be taken.
Take an easy stroll around Lake Crackenback and soak up the calming aura. Be enticed by lakeside benches before continuing along the weaving path through rolling high-country hills to the outskirts of the resort boundary.
This lovely walk gives you a mix of high country splendour along with a view of the resort and its facilities, while offering you a chance to take a walk that is neither too remote nor built up.
If invigoration rather than relaxation interests you, then slip into your running shoes and explore the Lakeview Track’s nine, strategically positioned, fitness stations!
This is the best way to circumnavigate the entire resort as the track mainly follows the resort boundaries and offers excellent views of distant mountain ridges, Lake Crackenback, the layout of the resort and a chance to discover a mix of terrain while remaining on an easy walking path.
A favourite walk for nature lovers who like to get away from the in-resort based walks. This track follows the flow of the Little Thredbo River and Kosciuszko National Park boundary on single-track paths complete with bridges, rest areas and the chance to spot wildlife and splendid alpine flowers.
The track eventually leads to the junction of the Little Thredbo and Thredbo Rivers before passing a beautiful grassy bank, the ideal spot to soak up the crisp alpine air in a peaceful setting or even take a dip in the river before your return trip to the resort.
This track is a great extension to Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa walks and can be accessed from a junction point along the Little Thredbo River track. From here the historic Bullocks Hut, built in 1934, is only 50 metres away. Follow the path along the Thredbo River and under the Skitube bridge, all the way to the Thredbo Diggings camping area. Take time out to enjoy a picnic and swim in the Thredbo River before following a return loop along the newly constructed Thredbo Valley Trail. Combining the resort’s Little Thredbo River track with the Bullocks Track makes for a good distance and an interesting river-based walk filled with flora and fauna sightings.
Make the most of your self-guided walk by requesting a picnic-pack prepared by the Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa’s acclaimed chef. Place your request with Alpine Larder by 4pm the night before and your hamper will be available for collection the following morning.
