Pioneer to the Snowy Mountains, Nugget Pendergast made his home by Roses Creek only metres upstream from where Lake Crackenback is situated. Pendergast, who claimed his grandfather was the Man From Snowy River, was a local legend and a recluse who relished in the beauty of the Snowy Mountains and the Bullocks Flat area now known as Lake Crackenback. An area rich in natural features and heritage, Lake Crackenback Resort was built in 1988. An inspirational creation, Lake Crackenback Resort received the prestigious Sir John Sulman's architectural design award. In 1985 Skitube was built to transport visitors from the Thredbo Valley directly to Perisher Blue ski area. The construction positioned Lake Crackenback Resort as the most central 'Dual Mountain Resort' in the region located less than 15 minutes to Thredbo and Perisher Blue. Lake Crackenback, connected to the Skitube by a private 150 metre road, now provides a shuttle for the Skitube, realising the advantage for snowsports enthusiasts staying at the resort. |
