Pioneer to the Snowy Mountains, Nugget Pendergast made his home by Roses Creek only metres upstream from where Lake Crackenback is situated. Pendergast, who claimed his grandfather was the Man From Snowy River, was a local legend and a recluse who relished in the beauty of the Snowy Mountains and the Bullocks Flat area now known as Lake Crackenback.

In 1985 Skitube was built to transport visitors from the Thredbo Valley directly to Perisher Blue ski area.
